{"id":2250,"date":"2024-07-11T12:30:04","date_gmt":"2024-07-11T09:30:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/arab-forum.org\/?post_type=publication&#038;p=2250"},"modified":"2025-01-26T21:05:50","modified_gmt":"2025-01-26T19:05:50","slug":"transport-in-arab-society-characteristics-and-trends","status":"publish","type":"publication","link":"https:\/\/arab-forum.org\/en\/research\/transport-in-arab-society-characteristics-and-trends\/","title":{"rendered":"Transport in Arab Society &#8211; Characteristics and Trends"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Abstract<\/span><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">In the last decade, <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">a sharp increase has been registered in<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> the motorization level and <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">in<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> the rate of <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">possession of drivers\u2019 licenses<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> in Arab society, following the rise in the standard of living and the increase in the number of <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">those<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> going out to work and to study.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The mileage of vehicles in Arab cities has expanded rapidly, and the average mileage <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">of a vehicle<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> in Arab cities is higher compared with Jewish cities in the same geographical regions.<\/span><\/li>\n<li>Arab employees use private vehicles at higher rates than Jewish employees as a means of getting to work, and in this period, the gap between populations has even widened.<\/li>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">A rise has been noted in expenditures on vehicles by Arab households, and the gap has closed compared with expenditures by Jewish households.<\/span><\/li>\n<li>Investment in public transport in Arab communities has not been enough to bring about an increase in the rate of Arabs using public transport, or an improvement in the satisfaction of the users themselves.<\/li>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">These developments are expected, ultimately, to increase congestion on the roads, especially in concentrations of Arab populations, to increase the time taken to reach work and to limit Arabs\u2019 ability to integrate into employment outside their region of abode.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The sharp cut in five-year plans for Arab society for 2022-2026 is expected to impact the development of transportation infrastructures<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">, and to<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> pose great difficulties in <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">the efforts to address<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> the problem.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Decision-makers must find a way to continue developing public transportation in and around Arab communities<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">, while at the same time<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> decreasing the demand for mileage in Arab society by establishing quality places of employment close to Arab population centers.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"featured_media":2248,"template":"","publication_category":[100],"class_list":["post-2250","publication","type-publication","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","publication_category-economical-development"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v25.7 - https:\/\/yoast.com\/wordpress\/plugins\/seo\/ -->\n<title>Transport in Arab Society - Characteristics and Trends - The Arab Economic Forum<\/title>\n<meta name=\"robots\" content=\"index, follow, max-snippet:-1, max-image-preview:large, max-video-preview:-1\" \/>\n<link rel=\"canonical\" href=\"https:\/\/arab-forum.org\/en\/research\/transport-in-arab-society-characteristics-and-trends\/\" \/>\n<meta property=\"og:locale\" content=\"en_US\" \/>\n<meta property=\"og:type\" content=\"article\" \/>\n<meta property=\"og:title\" content=\"Transport in Arab Society - Characteristics and Trends - The Arab Economic Forum\" \/>\n<meta property=\"og:description\" content=\"Abstract In the last decade, a sharp increase has been registered in the motorization level and in the rate of possession of drivers\u2019 licenses in Arab society, following the rise in the standard of living and the increase in the number of those going out to work and to study.
