Lacking opportunities: Young Arabs Between Wasted Human Capital and a Lack of Local Employment

  • In 2022-23 the proportion of young people (18-24) who were not in work or formal education stood at around 35% among Arab women and about 26% among Arab men – noticeably higher in comparison to young Jewish people (15% for women and 16% for men).
  • Among the young people not working or studying some were preparing for studies or work, whilst some were   jobseekers. These young people are actually economically active, and, for the purposes of this report, we consider that it is not appropriate to classify them as “economically inactive”. When these circumstances are taken into account, the rate of young Arabs who were inactive was about 14% for men and about 16% for women (compared with about 9% for young Jewish people – women and men).
